The Årsta Intermodal Terminal was the first finished building which is based on Jernhusen’s nationwide concept for intermodal terminals in Sweden. Jernhusen’s terminal network offers efficient transportation from Malmö in the south to Sundsvall in the north of Sweden. The new Årsta Terminal is well located, just 6 km away from Stockholm’s city center, close to the highway E4 (Södra länken) and with a direct connection to the railroad. Its strategic location offers optimal city distribution to a consumer market of more than 3 million people with combined transportation by train and truck.
Modern logistic centers are an important element to reduce traffic jams and the general impact on the environment. The terminal itself fulfills the norms to be certified in accordance with “Miljöbyggnad Silver”. In3prenör was the responsible construction company for the project, which included two new warehouses with office buildings, a terminal office and a workshop in the vicinity. The terminal can handle both warm and cold goods to be delivered in smaller amounts, mostly on small trucks.
The extension almost doubled the terminal capacity. Its terminal area is 100,000 sq.m. and 2,200 meters track capacity. Two modern portal cranes handle cargo and can lift up to 70 tons. Its stacking capacity is around 480 containers and the terminal has electrical connection for temperated devices.
